Aside from the PSP Phone, portable gaming fans might see another generation of Sony’s popular gaming console, the Playstation Portable.

According to CNET, reports from websites VG247 and MCV claim Sony will be launching the PSP 2 on January 27 in Tokyo, but the details about the release are still insufficient. Sony also declined to comment.

Some gaming sites claim PSP2 is like a portable version of Sony’s popular Playstation 3 console, based on the capability of the device to run games with high graphics and gameplay.

If true, PSP 2 will most likely compete with another portable gaming device, the Nintendo 3DS. The portable 3D device is scheduled to arrive in United States this quarter. Recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada proclaimed the 3DS as the best gaming device, due to its capability of presenting games in three dimensional display without the use of glasses.

Google may have asked it to hold back, but Sony is proudly showing off its Internet TVs at CES this year. Our impressions inside.

Google may have asked TV makers to hold back Google TV, but that isn’t stopping Sony. At Sony’s CES booth, Internet TV is all over the place, and it’s all powered by Google. We first tried out these TVs at Sony’s launch event back in October, and it doesn’t appear the software has changed since then. Though the concept is good, Google TV is still underwhelming, both in set-top boxes like the Logitech Revue and embedded in TVs, as seen here.

Two big problems stuck out with Sony’s Internet TVs:

1.The Google TV interface is sluggish.
2.The keyboard remote control is confusing and strangely built.
Though I did begin to get used to the device, the remote control remains far too complicated for many users. It took me several minutes to figure out how to do simple things like move my mouse, which is done using a touchpad button on the right side of the remote. Hopefully Google will revamp its software in the months to come and Sony will simplify the remote control in next year’s model. Until then, check out this run through of some Google TV features.
